Natural stone course 2023 on Crete

On Sunday, 8 trainees of the Euro-BBW again traveled to the Greek island of Crete to participate in a 14-day inter-company course of the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture on the use and processing of natural stone. They are accompanied by our colleagues Andreas A., Michael H., Joachim J. and Rudi K.

As every year, the group is again accommodated in the Orthodox Academy, with which a partnership already exists since 1996, in the context of which every year apprentices of the garden and landscape gardening complete this inter-company training course and produce projects from domestic natural stones in the outdoor area of the academy. This measure is supported by the EU program Erasmus+.

The trainees are five gardeners and 3 carpenters. They will continue to work on the meditation path of the Greek Orthodox Academy in Kolympari during the next two weeks. For the gardeners, the program includes more paths, stairs and columns made of natural stone and - as a special feature - a bell tower for the chapel. Our carpenters will do some repair work on chairs and railings, repair a small bridge and re-string movable walls.

On Monday and Tuesday, maintenance and restoration work was necessary before the trainees could start working on various new or yet to be completed projects today. However, the work was made difficult by heavy rain showers. Nevertheless, the foundation for the bell tower is already being prepared today, as you can see nicely on the photos.

Despite the rain, the whole group is highly motivated and works with enthusiasm. Besides a lot of theoretical and practical work, the program also includes some excursions. We will soon be reporting on this - and of course on the progress of the construction site.

We wish our trainees and colleagues lots of fun, great impressions and happy work!
