Climate adaptation project approved!

Under the funding guideline "Climate adaptation in social institutions" of the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU), we have applied for a project for the new installation of several cisterns and solar sails on the premises of the Euro-BBW. We are very pleased that this project has now been approved!

The summers of the last few years were characterized by both heavy rainfall events and periods of heat. On the one hand, this led to water damages and, on the other, to irrigate our 7-hectare outdoor area with thousands of cubic meters of tap water. By building new cisterns and using the roofs of our educational buildings, we now want to collect rainwater and use it to irrigate the outdoor areas. In addition, the planned water storage volume is intended to serve as a buffer in the event of new heavy rainfall events, thus preventing damage from flooding.

So that great heat and sunlight do not pose a health risk to our gardening and landscaping trainees, but we still have an outdoor training area for consistent practice of training content in the summer, solar sails are to be installed. This will allow the area to be used all year round.

This project is funded by the BMU (http://www.bmu.bund.de/themen/klima-energie/klimaschutz/anpassung-an-den-klimawandel/) through the funding program „ Climate adaptation in social institutions “ (https://www.z-u-g.org/aufgaben/klimaanpassung-in-sozialen-einrichtungen). The project starts in February 2022.
