Kiitos, Oulu!

In the meantime, our trainees and colleagues have well returned from Finland. They have had an exciting time with many new impressions, encounters and experiences.

Apart from trips into the spectacular nature of Finland, including Northern lights, reindeers and a barbecue at a river, our trainees have also experienced a lot at their respective workplaces.

Our trainee Saskia, for example, who is mainly concerned with print media in her media design training at the Euro-BBW, was employed in the media department at Luovi Vocational College which deals with the production of video clips such as e.g. promotional videos. It was her task to film herself a video about Luovi and the video production and she managed it very well and had a lot of fun with it.

The two IT specialist trainees Carolin and Dennis had a multi-faceted spectrum of application at the IT department of Luovi: from disassembling hardware, applying different programming languages – which they even taught the Finish students – up to using software to create a presentation about their training in Germany and the exchange.

In the home economics field, our trainee Lara had more than enough to do. She helped to prepare the meals, in service and cleaning and cleanup works at different learning places of Luovi. Also the mealtimes are “different” in Finland where lunch already starts at 10 a.m. in the morning.

Anna-Elisabeth and Kerstin, both trainees in the sales area, were employed in Kaakkuri at the supermarket “s-Market”. Their task was to unpack and sort goods, check best before dates or to pull products forward in the shelves. Compared to Germany, Finish supermarkets also open until Sunday nights, but our trainees just worked on workdays.

During the weekends there were trips on the itinerary as the group should also get to know as much as possible of the country of Finland. They went to the Wildlife Park in Ranua and then to Rovaniemi in order to cross the polar circle and to visit „Santa Claus“. They were also impressed by the stunning landscape at the river Kiiminkijoki where they had a barbecue with sausages and marshmallows after a hiking tour. They visited also Oulu, of course, and different museums and the neighboring islands and watched an ice-hockey game of the team “Oulun Kärpät”. Admittedly, the group decided to forego a bath in the ice cold river after a sauna session – in contrast to the local people. The Northern Lights were a very special highlight of the stay abroad. Miia, who organized the exchange on the part of Luovi, informed the group spontaneously about this phenomenon.

At this point, we would also like to thank Miia and her colleagues involved very sincerely for their hospitality, their readiness to help and support and their commitment! Kiitos!

You can find more detailed information about Datanurkka, Salmiakki and Lohikeitto and how the group communicated without knowing a word in Finish in our Finland blog at https://finnland2018.tumblr.com/

The exchange was organised within the framework of the programme Erasmus+ Mobility.
