Finnish trainees at the Euro-BBW

The group consists of the four trainees of the Luovi Vocational Institute, Hanna, Sanna, Sophie and Petrus, who are accompanied by their teacher Helena. This internship takes place within the framework of the programme Erasmus+ Mobility and continues the exchange existing since 2008 between the Luovi Vocational Institute in Oulu and the European Vocational Training Centre in Bitburg.

After an official welcoming speech of Günther Weydt, director of the Euro-BBW, our Finnish guests were familiarized with the centre by means of an English Prezi presentation and our leisure-time coordinator Johannes A. submitted some proposals for leisure-time activities which they gladly accepted.

In the afternoon we visited the individual internship places of the trainees together and introduced them to their respective trainers. Hanna, who was obviously very pleased with the short distance between her hotel and the working place, will be employed in our tea and Eifel shop. Moreover she will work in the charity clothing store of the German Red Cross in Bitburg two days a week. Sanna will support our training kitchen in preparing meals and Sophie will support our housekeeping department e.g. in setting the tables. Petrus will gain first practical experiences in Germany in our internal kiosk.

As the group was still exhausted by the 12 hour travel on Sunday, we took them to their hotel where they could relax a few hours before their welcoming party at our leisure house on Monday evening.

Since yesterday their are working in different departments of the Euro-BBW and thus for the first time in Germany. Initial excitement and nervousness has receded in the meantime, just as the concern to get lost in Bitburg. This afternoon, Johannes A. (also known as „lovely Johannes“ in Luovi quartners) invites them to a hiking tour in the „devil's canyon“ so that the group can also discover the closer region. For the weekend to come he plans a guided tour at the brewery Bitburger, a sightseeing and shopping tour in Trier as well as a tour to the Moselle with a wine tasting and visit of medieval castles.

We wish our Finnish guests a nice and interesting time!
