Department „Nutrition and home economics“ on tour

In order to familiarize the new participants in the area of nutrition and housekeeping with each other and also to get to know relatively unknown food - goat cheese - this department went to the beautiful Vulkaneifel to visit the Vulkanhof goat cheese dairy in Gillenfeld on the one hand and the volcano museum on the other.

The Vulkanhof goat cheese dairy is one of the best cheese dairies all over Germany, a producer oft he EIFEL brand and therefore supplier of our Eifel Shop. But how is cheese actually made and how is a goat milked? In order to find answers to these and many other questions, our participants and trainers took part in a guided tour of the farm and took a look behind the scenes of cheese production. They visited all stations from the stable to the milking parlour and the cheese dairy. They could even try out milking themselves on a wooden goat, and in a milking competition between participants and trainers the trainers were slightly ahead. At the end of the farm tour they could taste different types of cheese.

Afterwards they visited the Eifel Volcano Museum and learned all kinds of interesting things about the geological development of the volcanic Eifel as well as the origin and types of volcanoes by means of photos and exhibits.
