Bienvenido al Pais Vasco!

Our two employees Petra S.-S. and Mathieu R. had an exciting Erasmus+ exchange in the Spanish Basque country where they did job shadowing for one week in our partner institution Gureak. Not only Gureak was very impressing but also the city of San Sebastián and its region and the basque cuisine, of course.

In 1975, Gureak arised out of a parent initiative called Atzegi which aimed at ensuring a future for children with disabilities. Today, Gureak is a big enterprise with 5664 employees, 82 % thereof are people with disabilities. During their stay, our colleagues got to know the different departments, workshops and programs of Gureak and discovered differences and similarities compared to German institutions. Concerning digitalization, our Spanish partner is already very far advanced.

Whether in the workshops, in the factories or in the central kitchen: All workplaces are arranged according to levels of difficulty in all departments so that each employee can carry out those activities that best suit their age or capacity.

You can find more detailed information about the individual areas of Gureak in their travel blog at https://donostia2019.tumblr.com/.

After work our colleagues spent their time at the Museum of Basque History San Telmo, in the old town of San Sebastián or at the beach where they could digest the flood of impressions in peace. The enjoyment of basque specialties – e.g. the famous „Pintxos“ – added the finishing culinary touch to the end of the day.
At this point we would also like to thank our Spanish partners Zigor Mendieta and Miren Busnadiego as welll as all people involved for their patience, warm-heartedness and commitment, and of cource the program Erasmus+ which made this international encounter possible. Muchas gracias!
