Awards ceremony in Verdun

Reported by our trainee Tobias P.

This year we – the trainees of the vocations Tourism services management clerk and Tourism and leisure agent as well as one trainee of the vocation Media Designer – and our teacher Theo Ohlmeier took part in a history contest in memory of the battle of Verdun. Together with our partner school Lycée les Marcs d’Or in Dijon and their teacher Madame Emmannuelle Bonnot, we decided to make a video clip in Dijon and in Verdun. We registered the film with the title „Ensemble“ (which you can find at the YouTube channel of the Euro-BBW) at the national French contest Eustory. Some weeks later we got told that we have won the second price, together with another French vocational school.

Last week the awards ceremony took place in Verdun. Vanessa W., me (Tobias P.) and Mr. Ohlmeier as well as Mme Bonnot participated in this event.

On Sunday, we went to Nancy to pick up Mme Bonnot and headed on to Verdun. We stayed at the Centre Mondial de la Paix which is simultaneously the domicile of the bishop.

On Monday, we went to the Mémorial de Verdun which was renovated in 2016 and inaugurated in May by Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel and the French President Francois Hollande and where the ceremony took place. After a presentation of the individual projects of the different categories (Collège, Lycée und Lycée Professionnel) we could say a few words on stage.

After the ceremony we made a guided tour at the Fort Douaumont and at the Mémorial de Verdun. Photos were taken at the charnel house.

Before we went back to Bitburg, we first visited the destroyed village Fleury de Douaumont.
