About Sissi, cinnamon buns and "großer Brauner"

From 6th to 10th May 2019, the travel agents of the first and second year of training made an information trip to Vienna. The future travel agents planned the whole trip by themselves. In the following, we want to tell you about the experiences we have made.

On Monday, 06.05.2019, the trip started punctually at half past seven at the Euro-BBW where we were picked up by a bus and brought to Luxembourg airport. After our arrival, we all went immediately to the Check-In and passed security control. There is still uncertainty whether it was the watch or the tongue piercing that generated an alarm… Next we went to the Gate and afterwards to the smoker’s area. While some leaned back and relaxed, others found themselves at the front door, just before they had to pass security control twice. Blessedly, the flight was delayed. After the 110 minutes flight we landed in Vienna without any difficulties.

After our arrival in Vienna we went to the main station and then to our hotel „Motel One Hauptbahnhof”. What a hotel! Not to mention the breakfast with the delicious cinnamon buns! At the hotel, we could rest a bit before we went to the Prater where we first tested the Roller Coaster Restaurant. Who does not want to get meal served on rails and with colorful light? After a few free hours at the Prater we went back to our hotel with shaken heads.

The next day started punctually at 8 o’clock at the breakfast table. Afterwards we walked to the Castle Belvedere. There we could visit the museum with an exhibition of Klimt & Schiele as well as the gardens round the castle. After everybody got together again, we walked to the crypt of the Capuchin where we could visit the quite spooky resting places of the Hapsburg family which also includes Emperor Franz Josef I. and Empress Elisabeth (alias Sissi). Shortly after we went  to St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

On Wednesday we also started with a breakfast at 8 o’clock before we took the metro to Schönbrunn Palace. This place is perfect for all those who want to know how Sissi and Franz spent their day, as it was their domicile. After a very informative tour around the castle we enjoyed the rest of the time in the huge garden. Our next destination was the Naschmarkt. The variety of this historic market extends over 2.3 hectares. Some of us spent the rest of the day with a Großer Brauner” at the Café Sperl, others viewed the Time Travel.

On Thursday, we started – who would have thought it? – with a breakfast at 8 o’clock. At 9 o’clock we took the metro to Vienna Imperial Palace (Hofburg). The Vienna Hofburg consists of the Sissi museum, the imperial apartments and the Imperial Silver Collection. After a lunch break we visited the Spanish Riding School where we got a guided tour by the smart guide Andreas.

The next morning it was already time for our homeward journey. At least we could sleep in (plus 1 hour). At 10 o’clock we had to pack our bags and leave. At the main station we took the train to the airport where we had to check-in ourselves, go to security control and then wait for our flight home. The plane took us safely back to Luxembourg and the bus safely to the Euro-BBW.

Conclusion: We all enjoyed this information trip, even if we were good-for-nothing the following weekend. The agenda was quite exhausting but as a compensation we now know everything about Sissi.
