My voluntary social year at the Euro-BBW

Our volunteer Neele introduces herself.

Hello, my name is Neele, I'm 19 years old and I'm doing my FSJ (voluntary social year) at the European Vocational Training Center in Bitburg.

Before my FSJ, I did my Abitur. As I am very interested in psychology and careers in the social field, I decided to do an FSJ as a stop-gap measure.

I have already been working as an FSJ volunteer for more than half a year and have therefore been able to gain a lot of experience.

My working day here is very varied. I mainly help in the pre-vocational training program in the area of housekeeping, where I support the participants in their daily tasks, such as making sandwiches for the kiosk or buying groceries. However, I have also provided support in the areas of trade, business and administration and was able to gain an insight into these areas. The different professions that participants can pursue here make variety possible.

I also work at the vocational school from time to time, where I sit in on lessons and help with questions or sit with someone who needs a little more help. I also do driving duties where I accompany participants to appointments or pick them up.

My colleagues are all very helpful and have an open ear for me and I am grateful that I am very integrated into the team and am therefore part of the team.

My FSJ has made me more self-confident and I have more confidence in myself. In general, the FSJ teaches you to take on more responsibility and become more independent and conscientious.

I can recommend an FSJ to anyone, because you learn a lot during this year, both professionally and personally. Here at the BBW, I was further encouraged in my career aspirations and was able to gain a lot of experience in working with a wide variety of people.
