Visit of the MEP Karsten Lucke to the Euro-BBW

To celebrate European Week, European Day and the European Year of Youth, Karsten Lucke, Member of the European Parliament, visited the Euro-BBW to answer participants' questions on current political issues and to give a first-hand account of his work in the European Parliament.

It has already become a tradition that a Member of the European Parliament visits us on the occasion of European Week. After a break due to the Corona pandemic, we were therefore very pleased to continue this tradition this year and welcome Karsten Lucke to the Euro-BBW for the first time.

After the official welcome by the deputy headmistress of our vocational school Petra Sommer-Schmeichel, Karsten Lucke briefly introduced himself and his professional career and explained to the participants how the balance of power in the EU is divided and what part the European Parliament plays. Mr Lucke is one of a total of 705 MEPs from 27 countries, belongs to the Socialist Group and participates in the Committee on Development.

The importance of a United Europe and peaceful relations among European states became clear at the latest with the start of the Russian war of aggression on Ukraine. Accordingly, the majority of our students' questions also referred to this war. But other political and European topics were also burning under their nails, so that an extensive discussion ensued, of which Mr Lucke was visibly impressed.

We would like to thank Karsten Lucke once again for his visit!
