Housekeepers are responsible for the
domestic care of persons in private
households, in social institutions and
companies as well as in farm households.
They focus on these tasks.
Preparation of food, cleaning the building
and laundry, providing for cosy
and creative design of living and
recreation areas, care for ill persons,
elderly persons and children as well
as catering for guests or providing
guidance to older persons for living
independently are some of the possible
fields of work. Housekeepers
have to act in an economical and at
the same time environmentally compatible
manner and be capable of
handling and applying modern technology.
The place of work may be private
households, day care centres,
convalescent homes, hospitals, farms
as well as institutions for the elderly,
youth, children and disabled persons.
The catering and care of guests at
youth hostels, hotels and at conferences
also require well trained personnel.
Housekeepers are characterized by
an enjoyment in dealing with people
and working in a household as well as
organizational talent. A capacity for
understanding others, sociability and
technical understanding are further
core qualifications.
They act independently in a personoriented
manner while always keeping
the economic framework in
mind. At Euro-BBW home economics
management is incorporated into the
training so the training groups are in
charge of and perform all household
tasks within the institution. Besides a
training kitchen with modern equipment,
an institutional laundry operation
as well as state-of-the-art cleaning
equipment are available. In addition,
during the three-year training
numerous periods of work experience
take place with special focus on
work involving the care of children,
the elderly and ill persons.
