European Vocational Training Centre Bitburg

Interregional youth project concerning the prevention of addictions

Press release 01/2009

Rehearsal "Searching for happiness" is the title of a transnational music and theater production which was developed by 25 young persons from the 5 neighbouring regions Lorraine (F), Luxembourg, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Wallonia (B) in November under instruction of the applied theatre practitioners Jean-Martin Solt (F/D) and Roger Seimetz (L) as well as the music teachers Sven and Max Sauber (L) within the framework of a workshop in Eupen (B). In January 2009 it was finished within the framework of a tour around the regions and with presentations for young people in Saarbrücken, Sarreguemines (F), Bitburg and Luxembourg. On 27th January 2009 more than 200 young persons experienced the show in the conference room of the European Vocational Training Centre and this show was rich in images and sparingly subtitled in German and French. Half the audience came from neighbouring schools and other training centres.

The project is another concrete result of a cross-border co-operation which was founded in 1993 in Mondorf (Luxembourg) and which is aimed at intensifying the collaboration in the prevention of addictions in the Greater Region Sarre-Lor-Lux-Wallonia-Rhineland-Palatinate. This collaboration is supported by five non-profit organisations from the border region, one of them is Caritasverband Westeifel e.V. in Rhineland-Palatinate, which is also responsible for the drug advisory service in Bitburg, which is collaborating for years with the Euro-BBW within the framework of its local network. Hence it was not surprising that Euro-BBWs drug advisor, the social pedagogue Ulrike Nepp, and the educator Nadine Bläser participated actively in the project work with some participants and were thus involved in its success. The awareness "All people need happiness and satisfaction – that’s the best prevention of addictions!" delivered not only the title of this youth project but the slogan should also serve as an orientation for the participants and audience and thus make a contribution to integration.
