Visit from Belgium

Some days ago, Mrs. Dr. Verena Greten, managing director of the Institute for Training and further Education of the Middle Class (IAWM) in the German-speaking Community of Belgium, visited the Euro-BBW.

Some days ago, Mrs. Dr. Verena Greten, managing director of the Institute for Training and further Education of the Middle Class (IAWM) in the German-speaking Community of Belgium, visited the European Vocational Training Centre in Bitburg. Together with three collaborators she accepted an invitation by Euro-BBW’s director Günther Weydt in the context of cross-border co-operation in the field of vocational training.

The actual reason behind the visit of Dr. Greten was an upcoming evaluation of in-company vocational training in the German-speaking Community of Belgium. Dual vocational training still enjoys an excellent reputation, but companies complain about an increasingly insufficient educational background of their trainees after having completed compulsory schooling. The number of prematurely terminated trainings is increasing, but the reasons are not yet identified. In this respect our Belgian guests were very interested in the corresponding developments in Germany and in experiences with measures to prevent training drop-outs. The experiences of vocational training centers with young people with special needs could also help the German-speaking Community of Belgium to transfer promising approaches to their local structures. It was agreed to continue the exchange of experiences and to strengthen collaboration by possible mutual work shadowing and further trainings.
