German-French friendship

Within the framework of a long-planned trip in order to conclude a common school project, 12 students of the vocational school Lycée professionnel Les Marcs d'Or from Dijon visited the European Vocational Training Centre on Wednesday, accompanied by their teacher Emmanuelle Bonnot and started off symbolically this year's European Week.

The project idea was developed last year by Mme Bonnot and Theo O., teacher in our integrated vocational school, on the occasion of the memory of the battle of Verdun which took place 100 years ago. The students from Dijon and the Euro-BBW addressed jointly ancient history, visited Verdun and the memorial places and summarized their impressions in a video titled „Ensemble“ which was awarded by the French school competition EUSTORY. The existing partnership between the villages Velars next to Dijon and Osburg next to Trier, where the project managing teachers are living, was used to demonstrate personal consternation with regard to the historic events.

In the presence of Erich and Marie Gorges of the partnership committee of Osburg the video was presented at the Euro-BBW, with the participation of further participants and employees. In the discussion afterwards the necessity to maintain the friendship by between France and Germany by personal contacts was emphasized. And the trainees who took part in the project also think that it is extremely enriching.

Subsequently, tourism trainees of the Euro-BBW made a guided tour around the campus and through the historic center of  Bitburg, visited the tea and Eifel shop and the „Bitburger Marken- und Erlebniswelt“ of the brewery Bitburger the French students had been especially looking forward to. Even tough France is not a country of beer drinkers, everybody knows the brewery of Bitburg. A common „cruise“ on the Moselle and a visit of Trier deepened the personal contacts and raised considerations for future projects next year.
