European mini chefs EIFEL at the Euro-BBW


Some days ago, our chef de cuisine Uwe Fusenig was visited by 30 European mini chefs EIFEL in our refectory kitchen. As already done in 2014, they re-scheduled their monthly meeting again at the Euro-BBW. Here, they had enough space to prepare a delicious meal under the instruction of Uwe Fusenig (chef de cuisine) and Frank Zahren (chef): a „Quiche Lorraine“ as well as a „Black Forest Gateau in a glass“ and the non-alcoholic „super delicious cocktail“. They were supported by Marcel Stephan (restaurant Herrig in Meckel) and the nutritional expert Silvia Eckers, Röhl, who is responsible for the theoretical lessons.

According to the motto „Healthiness through the right nutrition in a sound environment“, the mini chefs, at the age von 10 to 12, are sensitized to the cultural asset Food and Beverages within two years. Under the competent instruction of nutritionists, chefs de cuisine and service staffs the children learn about the importance of the right nutrition for a healthy and balanced life. Instead of fast food they desire to eat fresh and healthy food. Uwe Fusenig was excited about the skills of the mini chefs who only met since summer 2015. In the common cooking lessons they learn how to prepare and to service meals and how to set the table appealingly. Besides, they get to know the different catering professions which are also trained in the Euro-BBW (chef (m/f), kitchen assistant (m/f) and Specialist in the hospitality services industry (m/f)).

Marcel Stephan and the mini chefs were impressed of the opportunities of our refectory kitchen: „Our mini chefs can have a peek behind the scenes of a canteen kitchen and get to know other companies.“

In the Eifel region, the project is leadingly supported by Tobias Stadtfeld (Hotel Heidsmühle in Manderscheid) and Thomas Herrig (Gasthaus Herrig in Meckel), and also by further companies in the Eifel region. The group is co-ordinated by Eifel Tourismus (ET) GmbH in Prüm.
